I had a standard def video, added an animated background in HD size. I made a nice HD video from a standard size video.

I’m very happy with the way it came out.

Chad – Thanks for stopping by!

If you’re making that change in your account settings over on YouTube, that is odd that it does not work. I urge you to try going back in and checking to make sure you clicked “Save Settings” after making your selection for Playback Set up. (I tend to forget to do that after making changes under “Edit Channel,” and I then have to go redo the work.)

In this case, you’ll need to make sure you’ve selected the third option down (“I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it’s available.”). Once you’ve done that and clicked “Save Changes,” then go try again to watch a video that is also available in high-quality and/or HD.

On my end, it works right away, and the link option beneath the video reads “watch in normal quality” rather than high-quality or HD — so it is obviously picking up right away.

Again, I urge you to make another attempt, and if you’re still have trouble, the answer may be found in the YouTube Help Forums. I just checked around there to see if anyone else was experiencing difficulties and did not see a report as such. All I can think of is that YouTube was experiencing issues on the site when you attempted it.

Changing my account settings to always play either the high quality or HD versions of videos does not work for me.

I save the settings but still when viewing any video that has high quality or HD play back I still have to click the link below the video to view in high quality or HD play back.
